A career talk on the UP Population Institute’s two postgraduate programs was recently conducted at the UPPI Seminar Room on June 14, 2019. In attendance were about a dozen participants from the Philippine Statistics Authority and the New Era University.

Opening the program was Dr. Nimfa B. Ogena, one of the most senior professors in the Institute. Among others, Dr. Ogena presented a historical background on student recruitment activities at the Institute and why it was being done at this time. She was followed by MADEM student Denise Hyacinth Joy B. Musni who presented a musical interlude. Denise is the only UPPI student who has received the UPPI Academic Excellence Award in two consecutive semesters (1st & 2nd sems of AY 2016-2017)

Third to speak was Dr. Grace T. Cruz, professor and Academic Program Coordinator. In her speech, Dr. Cruz laid out the research and academic activities at the UPPI, the coverage of the two postgraduate programs, various opportunities after graduation, and current employment of alumni.

Following her were five speakers- alumni and current students- who presented testimonies and narrated their experiences while studying at the Institute. MADEM student Ms. Maria Karlene Shawn Cabaraban was first to speak followed by

Mr. Randolph Sasota (MADEM 2007), currently working at the Department of Science and Technology’s Science Education Institute. Third speaker was Dr. Jeofrey Abalos (MPOPS 2008) via live feed from Vienna where he is currently doing research at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis. He was interviewed by Mr. Michael Dominic C. Del Mundo (MADEM 2015), Instructor at the UPPI. Fourth speaker was Klarriness P. Tanalgo (MADEM 2018) graduate and current Director of the Demographic Research and Development Foundation and Ms. Jolly Catalan of the Population Commission and an MPOPS student.
An open forum followed afterwards where prospective students inquired about application and enrolment procedures.
