The UP Population Institute (UPPI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Vicente B. Jurlano as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Institute for the period of June to August 2023. Dr. Jurlano brings a wealth of experience and expertise in developmental work, most notably from his recent role as a National Programme Officer of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). With this appointment, Dr. Jurlano is expected to continue UPPI’s pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, and extension service.

Dr. Jurlano joined UPPI in 2020 and has been actively participating in various research projects such as the ongoing 2021 Young Adult Fertility and Sexuality Study. He was lead investigator of the 2022 WHO-funded project Deployment and Uptake of COVID-19 Vaccines for Refugees and Migrants: A Mixed, Multi-Method Six-Country Study. He succeeds Dr. Grace T. Cruz who served as the UPPI director from May 2020 to 2023.

UPPI thanks Dr. Vicente B. Jurlano for accepting this challenging role. With his oversight, we have full confidence that he will uphold the standards set by Dr. Cruz and ensure a seamless transition to new leadership, while guiding the Institute towards further progress during his term.
