UPPI Alumni excel in sustainability research
The Institute congratulates Ms. Sheena Kristine M. Cases on her new academic endeavor. Ms. Cases is among this year’s researchers awarded a PhD under Monash University’s Graduate Research Industry Partnership (GRIP) program. Under this program, she will study how personal values and family dynamics influence household food waste minimization.
Ms. Cases earned her MA in Demography in 2019 and has worked with organizations such as Save the Children, Oxfam, and the United Nations Development Programme.
Meanwhile, Ms. Anna Amalia A. Vibar, who is currently pursuing a PhD in Geography at the University of Namur, has published a co-authored paper with her adviser, Dr. Sébastien Dujardin, and colleagues Robert Paulus, Stefan Kienberger, and Catherine Linard.

Their paper, Dynamic Social Vulnerability Mapping Using Facebook Data, published in the Wiley Online Library, found that population exposure to climate risks changes over time. During the day, more people move to vulnerable areas, while on weekends and holidays, they gather in safer places. These findings suggest that exposure to climate hazards is not fixed but varies based on movement patterns. Although social media data has limitations, the study highlights its potential to complement traditional data and improve disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation strategies.
The Institute is proud of their valuable contribution to sustainable development. Their work not only advances academic knowledge but also proposed solutions for pressing global challenges.
