UPPI Welcomes New Director
Dr. Grace T. Cruz
Dr. Grace T. Cruz, Professor of Demography, has been appointed Director of the UP Population Institute effective 1 June 2020. She replaces Dr. Maria Midea M. Kabamalan whose appointment ends on 31 May 2020 after two terms.
This will be Dr. Cruz’s third term of office having previously served two 3-year terms, from 2005-2011.
Dr. Cruz was the Academic Program Coordinator of UPPI for AY 2019-2020. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Center for Population and Development (PCPD) since 2016. Dr. Cruz is currently Chair of the Demographic Research and Development Foundation.
She has a PhD in Sociology from the University of the Philippines. Her research interests are in the field of aging, non-sexual risk behaviors of adolescents, and population projections. She is the Principal Investigator of the 2018 Longitudinal Study of Aging and Health in the Philippines (LSAHP).
UPPI also announces the appointments of Dr. Elma Laguna as Academic Program Coordinator and of Asst. Prof. Michael Dominic del Mundo as Training Coordinator.
